February Full Moon Magick

The moon is a central part of magick; its different phases can be incredibly helpful with spellwork and all other aspects of your practice. Saturday February 27th is the next full moon – but what does it mean?

This month’s full moon is in Virgo – one of the three Earth signs of the zodiac. Those with Virgo sun signs are often seen as picky and particular, and like having a clean space around them (in their own sense of the word), and as the moon is in Virgo, you might feel the urge to have a Spring clean or perform some random acts of kindness. And though it’s starting to warm up in some parts of the UK, this full moon is also known as the Snow Moon because we’re just coming to the end of winter.

Cleansing

During any full moon, it’s a good idea to cleanse your space. You can do this however you please, but a common method is using a candle or incense to cleanse – move it around any object you wish to cleanse, and you’re good to go. Charging your crystals in the moonlight is also a good idea if you use them in your practice, especially if you feel like you’re overdue. But this isn’t an option for people in the broom closet or unable to use incense, so if there’s any cleansing ritual you’d like to try, the full moon is the perfect time to do it!

Moon Water

Making moon water is another good idea, and it’ll be incredibly potent during the full moon. Simply get a cup or glass of water and place it on a windowsill to bathe in the full moon’s glow and take in some of its energy, then save it to use during spells and other parts of your practice. You can even boil the water to use in herbal potions.

It’s a common belief that you can’t let the moon water touch sunlight, but that really isn’t necessary and won’t ruin the water if you can’t move it in time.

Full moons represent an ending, so work you may have started during the new moon and earlier lunar phases may be starting to come to fruition. You may want to use this time to reflect on how your intentions still resonate, or redirect your energies elsewhere if you feel like it isn’t working the way you’d like.

Spellwork

This is also an excellent time to cast spells and practise rituals that match the theme of endings: think banishment spells, rituals with the intention to cut ties with someone, or decreasing negative energy. But don’t worry if you were planning to do something that would be better suited to beginnings: you can either wait until the next new moon on 13 March, or even try to flip the intention of your work to try and yield a similar result.

For example, if you wanted to try a spell to increase your productivity and motivation, you might want to try a spell with the intention of decreasing the barriers to your productivity instead. Or if you planned out a ritual to increase self-love, try flipping it to a ritual to decrease self-hatred or negative thought patterns.

Most importantly, how you practise is up to you – these are just some suggestions to give you a starting point of what you might like to do during this full moon. No matter what you do, we hope your full moon is prosperous and enjoyable, and you get to see its beauty in the night sky!
